If your Mac gets halfway through the progress bar and then crawls to the end then the fix is simple.
Once booted go into System Preferences>Touch ID and you will find that all of your fingerprints have gone.
Go through the process of adding a Fingerprint back into the Mac, reboot after and all should be back to normal
