{"id":413,"date":"2011-03-01T14:10:53","date_gmt":"2011-03-01T14:10:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.designed79.co.uk\/?p=413"},"modified":"2011-05-12T14:51:52","modified_gmt":"2011-05-12T14:51:52","slug":"turn-off-mdns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.designed79.co.uk\/?p=413","title":{"rendered":"Turn Off mDNS quickly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The easiest method is to make sure your computer is not broadcasting any Bonjour messages about what services are available on your computer by turning off the services.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of the Finder, make sure File Sharing, Remote Management and Screen Sharing are all unchecked and your computer won&#8217;t appear in another user&#8217;s sidebar. If it has already shown up on the other user&#8217;s sidebar it may not disappear right away but nothing will be accessible. This won&#8217;t prevent it from appearing elsewhere (eg. if you&#8217;re sharing printers then it will show up in Print dialog boxes).<\/p>\n<p>The other alternative is to turn off Bonjour all together which requires a restart. Apple has posted<a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/support.apple.com\/kb\/HT3789\">instructions<\/a> on how to do this.
