If you hold down\u00a0Shift-Option\u00a0and then click on the icon, you\u2019ll get a \u201cDebug\u201d menu to appear.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.designed79.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/20160112_Debug.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-2627\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.designed79.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/20160112_Debug.jpg\" alt=\"20160112_debug\" width=\"420\" height=\"227\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.designed79.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/20160112_Debug.jpg 1318w, https:\/\/blog.designed79.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/20160112_Debug-640x346.jpg 640w, https:\/\/blog.designed79.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/20160112_Debug-768x415.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.designed79.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/20160112_Debug-1024x553.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.designed79.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/20160112_Debug-300x162.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Hidden under that \u201cDebug\u201d option are a few very useful choices. \u201cReset the Bluetooth module\u201d seems to be a sort of nuke-it-from-orbit approach to Bluetooth problems that\u2019ll completely wipe all of the hardware module\u2019s settings. \u201cEnable Bluetooth logging\u201d will create a new log file (viewable within Applications &gt; Utilities &gt; Console) that you can check out if you\u2019re great at parsing log-speak.<\/p>\n<p>The fourth option there, \u201cRemove all devices,\u201d would be great to know about if you were moving, say, a mouse and keyboard to a new workstation, as they\u2019d then be easy to pair with the new Mac. But the third choice, \u201cFactory reset all connected Apple devices,\u201d is the one I like the best. It\u2019ll force your Apple stuff back to factory settings, which is an incredible troubleshooting step if you\u2019ve already tried things like turning the devices off and on again, unpairing and re-pairing, deleting Bluetooth preferences, resetting the SMC, and so on. Your Mac will give you a somewhat ambiguous (but still scary!) warning if you attempt to do this:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.designed79.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/20160112_Sure.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-2628\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.designed79.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/20160112_Sure.jpg\" alt=\"20160112_sure\" width=\"343\" height=\"131\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.designed79.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/20160112_Sure.jpg 864w, https:\/\/blog.designed79.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/20160112_Sure-640x244.jpg 640w, https:\/\/blog.designed79.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/20160112_Sure-768x293.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.designed79.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/20160112_Sure-300x115.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 343px) 100vw, 343px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Finally, here\u2019s one more quick trick.
